Council Bluffs, Iowa — Council Bluffs celebrated its rich sports history on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with the inaugural Pro Sports Roster ceremony, honoring 24 individuals with Council Bluffs connections who went on to compete professionally or in the Olympics.
The ceremony took place at the Iowa West Field House, where students from area high schools, along with friends, family, and coaches of the athletes gathered to recognize them.
The event marked the first class on the roster, with the Foundation already developing a short list for the next class. To submit a name, email: info@iowawestfoundation.org.
A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of 24 large-scale banners, each measuring 5-by-10 feet, now displayed along the south wall of the Field House. Nine honorees delivered remarks, reflecting on their athletic journeys and the role Council Bluffs played in shaping their success. Miniature replica banners were presented to honorees and representatives from their families or schools.
President and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, Brenda Mainwaring said it was just the beginning of a new chapter of telling positive stories about the Council Bluffs community.
The banner display will be open to the public Monday through Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. through the end of January.
