Kathy Fry

Executive Assistant to the CEO, Office Manager

Where are you from?
I grew up on a small family-owned farm just outside Mondamin, Iowa. I loved my rural upbringing and still hold on to many of those memories, though I am a city girl now.

Describe your role at the Foundation in a tweet (280 characters):
My job varies greatly from day to day, but my main focus as Executive Assistant is to support our CEO and Board Members. I also serve as Office Manager to help ensure the office operates smoothly and efficiently.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the variety. No two days are ever the same, and there is never a time that I have said: “I’m bored”.

What is one of the toughest challenges of your work?
Though my job has some challenges, I can’t really say any of them are “tough”. Maybe because I love to be challenged, and when you are doing what you love, it doesn’t really seem hard.

Where is your favorite place in Council Bluffs or Pottawattamie County and why?
Bayliss Park is hands-down my favorite spot. My first apartment was in Council Bluffs, and I was overwhelmed by the city and people after moving here from Mondamin. Fortunately, Bayliss was an easy walk from my apartment, and I spent many, many hours enjoying the peace and quiet. It was my own little piece of the country.

Who in the community inspires you?
Our Board members are truly an inspiration to me. They give countless hours of their personal time to the betterment of our community.

What would you like people reading this to know about the Foundation?
I would like everyone to know how much the people here at the Foundation truly care about Council Bluffs and Pottawattamie County.

A few fun facts about you:
I am an avid fan of the sugar arts. I taught cake decorating at a local craft store for over 20 years, have made more than 100 wedding cakes and am active in an international organization of sugar artists.

In addition, just last year, I crossed an item off my bucket-list by learning to ride a motorcycle and becoming the proud owner of my first Harley.

In 10 years, the transformational change I hope to see happen in the region is:
An active and vibrant riverfront. It is exciting to be involved in this transformational project from the ground floor – I can’t wait to see Council Bluffs shine!

OUR VISION is a community where families choose to live, and businesses choose to locate, because of its quality of life and standard of living.
