Jackie Dix

Controller

Where are you from?
I was born in Michigan and moved to Council Bluffs when I was ten years old.

Describe your role at the Foundation in a Tweet (280 character limit):
As Controller of the Foundation, I am the finance department and human resources department, responsible for the financials and human resources management for our employees.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being part of the bigger picture and seeing our dollars at work.

What is one of the toughest challenges about your work?
Making sure all of our finances are in order and that we stay within budget.

Where is your favorite place in Council Bluffs or Pottawattamie County and why?
Charles E. Lakin YMCA. It has so many things to offer for all ages. My husband and I enjoy watching our grandchildren play in a variety of sports leagues. It is also a good place to go for exercise.

Who in the community inspires you?
I don’t really have a specific person, per say. I am inspired by all the nonprofits and volunteers in our community that are helping others.

What would you like people reading this to know about the Foundation?
The Foundation has a very small staff of only eight employees, all of whom are very dedicated to this community. We work with our board and community leaders as a team, always striving to make this a better place to live.

A fun fact about you:
• Since I started at Iowa West Foundation 20 years ago, my family has grown from six to twenty – that includes 11 grandchildren.
• I am the first employee at the Foundation to hold the position of Controller.

Finish this sentence. In 10 years, the transformational change I hope to see happen in the region is:
Development in the areas around the riverfront and Mid-America Center.

OUR VISION is a community where families choose to live, and businesses choose to locate, because of its quality of life and standard of living.
