Iowa West Foundation Opportunity Scholarships Awarded

College Access Program Completion Scholarships Also Announced

The Iowa West Foundation, announced today that it has awarded the Iowa West Foundation Opportunity Scholarships totaling $400,000 to 25 southwest Iowa students beginning college in the 2014-2015 academic year. Each student will receive a $16,000 scholarship to be used over four years at the college or university of their choice for tuition and fees.

The Iowa West Foundation Opportunity Scholarship Program is administered by the Iowa College Foundation. High school senior students meeting certain requirements and attending high school in Pottawattamie County (IA) were eligible to apply.

“This scholarship program provides an exciting step for local high school seniors to fulfill a dream to attend college.” said Pete Tulipana, President and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation. “These scholarships will assist these first generation students in meeting their goals, and we wish them well on their college careers.”

Tulipana also explained that 13 of the 25 scholars graduated from the College Access Program (CAP), an Iowa West funded program in the two high schools of the Council Bluffs Community School District. CAP is a four year program for students who might not otherwise further their education, and who may be the first member of their families to go to college. CAP is administered by AIM, a regional not-for-profit which coordinates youth training programs.

In addition, the Iowa West Foundation also announced seven scholarships to high school seniors who completed the four year CAP program. They were awarded $1,000 completion scholarships also funded by Iowa West.
