Title: Director of Communications

Where are you from? Born and raised in Omaha, went to high school in Mondamin, Iowa and now reside in Council Bluffs

Describe your role at the Foundation in a Tweet (140 character limit): I get to show and tell how Foundation funds impact our community first-hand and provide a peek behind the curtain about how our process works.

What do you enjoy most about your job? My favorite thing is writing Grants at Work stories, where I can go on a site visit and see a grant in action. I’ve been on a field trip with Kindergarteners, a home visit with FAMILY, Inc., a tour of a recycling center in Pottawattamie County, and so much more.

What is one of the toughest challenges about your work? That despite all of the information we disseminate, there will still be misconceptions about how our Foundation operates. We strive to be transparent and are happy to answer any questions the public may have. Contact us anytime!

Where is your favorite place in Council Bluffs or Pottawattamie County and why? I love our local library and take my kids (7, 4 and 1) any chance I get. River’s Edge during Loessfest is a close second!

Who in the community inspires you? If you want to be a leader in Council Bluffs, there are ample opportunities to join a board, volunteer for a nonprofit, or support a good cause. I’m inspired and impressed by those who give so generously of their time to do this for our grantee organizations.

What would you like people reading this to know about the Foundation? How much everyone here – from our staff to our board to our advisory committee members – cares about Council Bluffs and Pottawattamie County. They really want the best for the current and future residents!

A fun fact about you: I graduated with a Journalism degree from Iowa State. My first job out of college was as the southwest Iowa reporter at the Daily Nonpareil newspaper!

Finish this sentence. In 10 years, the transformational change I hope to see happen in the region is: Ten years from now my oldest daughter will be graduating from high school. If she decides to go away to college, I hope the community – with all its amenities and offerings from the River’s Edge to downtown Council Bluffs – will easily pull her and others right back.

OUR VISION is a community where families choose to
live, and businesses choose to locate, because of its
quality of life and standard of living.
